Thompson cut loose, Hoffpauir claimed off waivers
November 4th, 2009 | by Ryan Boyer |The Brad Thompson era has come to an end.
The Cardinals released Thompson Wednesday in an effort to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Thompson almost surely would have been non-tendered, anyway, so this move doesn’t come as a surprise.

Also, the Blue Jays last night claimed Jarrett Hoffpauir off waivers. Hoffpauir had a good year at Triple-A Memphis last season and a nice moment with the big club in Cincinnati, but he’s 26 and with Daniel Descalso coming on strong, he would likely have been a backup at Triple-A Memphis next season.
The club also sent Joe Thurston and Matt Scherer off the 40-man roster and to the Triple-A Memphis, meaning there are now three spots open on the 40-man roster.
