Pujols takes home back-to-back MVPs
November 24th, 2009 | by Ryan Boyer |Albert Pujols was the unanimous winner of the NL MVP today, winning the award for the second straight year and third time overall. He is the 10th player to win three MVP awards and the first ever to win the Rookie of the Year and three MVPs.
The Cardinals as a team have won 17 MVP awards, the most in the NL and second to the Yankees’ 20.

There were other Cardinals players that received votes, as well.
- Chris Carpenter finished 14th in the voting and had as high as a fifth place vote.
- Adam Wainwright finished 15th and also had a fifth place vote (Tim Lincecum, by the way, finished behind both Carp and Waino in 19th place).
- Matt Holliday finished 16th and had a fourth place vote.
- Yadier Molina even got in on the fun with an eighth place vote that was good enough to earn him 23rd place.

I always get cracked up seeing the guy who actually wins the Cy Young Award get fewer votes for MVP than their runners-up for the Cy. I realize it’s generally a different set of voters for the most part, but you’d think the logic would at least be somewhat consistent.
Maybe if these guys had voted for the Cy, Carp or Waino would’ve actually won.
*sigh*
